Long, long ago, wrapping my arms around a friend, sitting outside on a dark night, as he cried and cried. He shook and wailed and clutched me tight enough to bruise, and I never even knew what it was about, that night, just that I was desperately needed. And I spent twenty years being the stoic one, sane and stable through the tears and the euphoria and the rages. I made, by sheer force of will, the safe harbor, the secure family.
Now it's safe for me to cry, and I no longer need to.
